Hand crafted pendant with Hoopoe - an indigenous bird, but... quite rare. Quite exotic... I could even say. Hoopoe was made by me from watch parts and copper. The scenery behind him is also made by hand - mainly from thin wires, plants fragments, and watch cogs. Some elements had been carved and painted as well. My point was to achieve the effect of somethig between naturalness and mechanicity (percipient eye can notice small and large cogs and may see a metallic gloss of pigments). I need to admit that our wild nature is extremely fascinating and it is not easy to observe wild animals in their natural environment. I'm certain it is mainly because these animals are quite rare. That's why this small, familiar bird received a bit exotic stylization - to emphasize its uniqueness. The setting of the work is made of an antique pocket watch case. This watch case is not new, it has visible traces of being used in the past (it is visible on pictures), but in my opinion this is why it perfectly suits to this work. I really like this genuine charm of really old objects. I don't like inauthentic copies of old equipment. I prefer things with soul and history. That's why I often use antique watch cases for settings of my works. I give them a new life and a part of myself, creating miniature artworks inside.
